Our partners from McGill University published new research on the use of a LAMP assay to detect drug resistance toward benzimidazole in Hookworm. A LAMP assay (Loop-mediated isothermal amplification) is a single tube technique for the amplification of DNA. LAMP is regarded as a low-cost alternative to detect certain diseases and will be explored in the Starworms project to detect genetic resistance markers in clinical stool samples.

Wild-type (WT) hookworm strains and strains with a mutation (MT) in the tubulin-gene, making these strains resitant towards benzimidazole.
