The first week of November 2019, the Starworms team met with collaborators to discuss the progress on the work regarding anthelmintic resistance. The Ghent-based meeting lasted for 1.5 days and the aims of the meeting were to:
- Provide an overview of the different investments of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to monitor / delay anthelmintic resistance
- Present and discuss the results on the diagnostic performance of molecular tools to assess single nucleotide polymorphisms in the beta-tubulin gene of human soil-transmitted helminths
- Present and discuss the current evidence of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the beta-tubulin gene in human soil-transmitted helminths
- Provide an update on the efficacy of drugs in countries where control programs reached high coverage for long time of period
- Work out an action plan for the analysis of the worms collected during the expulsion studies in Pemba Island (Tanzania) and Jimma Town (Ethiopia)
